While standing here photographing this scene while it was getting dark, I was thinking about my sister and brother-in-law and wishing they were here with me. He was recently diagnosed with cancer, so all of their time has been centered around hospitalization, treatments and appointments. Before this, they enjoyed coming to Crested Butte, which is one of their most favorite places to be in the world. As I stood here with my camera and tripod, capturing this scene as the sun went down and the moon came up, I felt sad and wanted to cry. This image turned out on the blue side, and I was going to edit it to make it look more realistic, but decided to keep it this way to express how I was feeling at that moment. I was photographing a beautiful scene, but something was missing: my sister and brother-in-law to enjoy it with me. My sister should be here photographing it with me, and brother-in-law should be sitting in a camp chair alongside the river with a fishing pole in hand. I felt...
